Welcome to Union Presbyterian Church
"Ordinary People Serving Ordinary People with Extraordinary Grace"
When you come to a Worship Service on Sunday morning, you will be greeted by a church member. If you have small children, a nursery is available and is staffed by workers who have had background checks.
The Worship Service begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary with the Welcome and Announcements. A time of silence follows the announcements to allow each individual to prepare to worship God. The service then includes a time to offer confessions and a time to greet one another in Christian love. There is also a time for those attending the service to share joys as well as request prayers for friends and family members in need. These "Joys and Concerns" are then lifted up to God in prayer.
The service then includes a time to give back to God. The "Noisy Offering" allows children to move through the sanctuary with metal buckets collecting coins. The goal is to make noise by tossing coins in the buckets. These collections go to a different ministry each quarter. The Noisy Offering is then followed by the more traditional offering.
Prior to the reading of scripture, a prayer for illumination is offered. A church member ordinarily reads the scripture. Scriptures are selected based on the lectionary provided by the Presbyterian Church P.C. (USA). Following the scripture reading, The Interpretation or sermon, is provided by the minister, Reverend Mary D. Alessio. A time of silence follows The Interpretation to allow participants to reflect on the message and listen for God's word.
Music is an important part of the Worship Service. Hymns and special music are incorporated throughout the service as God is praised and worshipped. At the close of the service, church members and visitors are encouraged to go out into the world to serve and to love.
